Your health and safety and that of your clients is of the utmost importance, salon based, home based or mobile the same health & safety procedures apply. The guidelines outlined here should be followed each and every day.
Firstly maintain proper personal hygiene and grooming. Don't wear heavy make-up or perfume. Your image and demeanor talks volums about you...
Prior to each and every treatment you and your client should thoroughly wash your hands. Hand washing is the single most important thing you can implement to control infections by reducing the transfer of microorganisms from one person to another.
All your instruments, tools and implements should be disinfected prior to servicing each client. Disinfect your table and change towels in front of your client which will ressure her/him. If blood is drawn during a procedure disinfect the implement before continuing with the service. If the blood came into contact with an orange stick, nail file or other dispoable item, discard it at the end of the service or give it to your client. Do not use on another client!
Dispoable items should be used where possiable to reduce contamination and save time. Discard disposables immediately after each client in a metal dustbin ideally. Those contaminated with blood should be sealed in a plastic bag before being discarded effectively being double wrapped.
Recommend any clients with questionable nail conditions to seek medical advice. Don't take the risk for a few pounds to put your health and those of others at risk.
Proper ventilation is essential as it reduices your exposure to airbourne particles/dust or bacteria as well inhalation of chemical fumes, creating a healither enviroment. Please remember odour less products still require ventilation. If you can't smell it - it does not mean the chemical fumes don't exist.
MSDS - Material Safety Data Sheet should be on file for each and every product you purchase. MSDS sheets are to ensure you understand the make-up of the chemicals you are working with and explains the necessary precautions to take in its useage.
Read and follow all manufacturer's instructions, warnings and cautions before using any product/chemical. Take note of storage and shelf life. Note the proper disposal of chemicals. Never pour Acetone down the toilet, sink or drain. Never heat chemicals - It has been known for someone to heat Acetone in a microwave and it expolded leaving her with 3rd degree burns. If you have plastic pipe it will melt/erode the pipe work. If in doubt contact your local Council. There are eco-friendly ways to get rid of your waste product. Nail chemicals are safe with proper handling. Sorry for stating the obvious never store chemicals under the stairs. That goes for any chemicals as it is a fire risk.
